REDMOND EAGLES Gazette NOVEMBER 2015

MEMBERSHIPS CARDS STAMPED OCTOBER, 2015 or before ARE NOW PAST DUE!

Building Update

Your continued efforts and donations of time and treasure to the building fund are truly starting to be seen throughout the club.  Both work days were very successful.  What has been accomplished to date?  The chalkboard paint is complete above the bar.  The center rooms have been vacuumed and de-cobwebbed.  The back meeting room is completely repainted.  The old stage has been torn out and the new stage has been installed. The new storage room will soon be underway. If anyone has access to ceiling tiles for less than .50 a square foot please let us know.

With your continued support following the finishing of the inside paint job, we look forward to the replacement of the existing dance floor and carpet soon to follow.

We want to thank Kris Wentworth for her amazing time and effort that she put into painting the entire back room.  We thank you very much!!!!

SPECIAL EVENTS
Watch for our Christmas Holiday Giving Tree which will be up after Thanksgiving.  We have selected one family that has 4 small girls, and are taking requests for additional families, perhaps a family of boys.  If you know of a family in need please speak to Thea.

We have added in a Tuesday Ladies Night and are requesting feedback of things that you would like to see be added to this; bunko, poker or salsa lessons, bingo….  Let Thea or Kris Wentworth-Nettleton know.

VERY IMPORTANT

There have been many items left at the club.  Cooking appliances, boxes of miscellaneous items, coats, jackets, sweaters, glasses and a full set of keys.  If these are used for anything other than the day to day functions of the club please come and pick them up and or put them in their appropriate storage areas.  Anything left at the club after November 15th will be donated to the Goodwill and or be thrown away.

The backroom will soon be complete and we are currently taking reservations for social functions.  Please contact Thea for cost, availability and questions.

***Change in dues.  The Eagle’s Grand has implemented a change in dues structure that will begin on May 31st.  Please pay close attention to your dues statement when it arrives.  Any questions you have can be asked of your friendly bartenders.

***Our State President and Madam State President will be attending our District Meeting on November 7.  Please come and join us for breakfast and a very special meeting.
LADIES AUXILIARY

Congratulations to our own Carole Browning, Redmond Auxiliary Past President AND District Deputy, who was awarded at the recent State fall conference.  Carole was recognized for her outstanding accomplishments in attendance, community service (Humane Society) and membership.  Way to go, Carole!  We’re very proud of you!

Our recent Fall Bazaar was a huge success, resulting in more than $700 that will benefit the American Diabetes Association and Pope’s Kids.  A big thanks to all who helped with the bazaar and to all who helped support it!

Too bad Joan Turshin and Cathy Dunn weren’t at the October meetings.  They could have won the membership jackpot.  Now it’s up to $90!  Members, be sure to attend Auxiliary meetings.  You might be a big winner, but you have to be present to win!

ATTENTION EVERYONE – When you see flyers posted announcing Ladies Auxiliary activities, please don’t take them.  Please respect our efforts to publicize our events that are open to everyone.  If you have questions about our activities, please feel free to contact any Auxiliary member.  Thanks for your cooperation!

Monday, April 29, 7 p.m. -   Plan to participate in the Joint Meeting of the Aerie and Ladies Auxiliary.  We’ll be making plans for the annual picnic on July 13, for Thanksgiving and for other events during the year, especially fund raising activities!  Come and contribute your ideas!

A big thanks to everyone who has come down every Friday to support our fundraising efforts!  We now have $1,068.50 in the fund thanks to your help!  All funds collected go directly to a special savings account.  This money will not be used for any other purpose.  We had more lucky 50-50 winners in March including Rob Calhoun and 2-time winner Kia Molavi.  Be sure to buy your ticket by 7 pm on Friday for the drawing at 7:30 pm.  YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!  Come on down, enjoy a Friday night at the Eagles, buy a 50-50 ticket and maybe you’ll be a winner too!   Please note that any personal donations are tax deductible since the Fraternal Order of Eagles is a non-profit organization.  Our American Income Life Insurance Company representative, Amanda McDonald, recently made a generous donation – thank you Amanda!

REDMOND EAGLES BLOG
In March we announced that the Redmond Eagles now has a Blog, However, unfortunately, yours truly reported the wrong address.  I’m sorry about the error.  Some of you might have figured out that the address should have included our Aerie number as 3324, not 3325. The complete, correct address is http://redmondeagles3324.blogspot.com    Please use the Blog instead of email so you can access the newsletter and other news items anytime.  PLEASE NOTE:  Let us know if you still prefer to have the newsletter mailed to you.  We would like to be able to mail the newsletter only to people who want it mailed.  We can cut down on printing and mailing expenses if we know who doesn’t want to have the newsletter mailed to them.  Questions?  Contact Ruby at 425-889-0130, or Cece at jimncece@yahoo.com, or Ritzy, our Blog expert, at ritzythings@gmail.com or 425-868-2423, or leave a note in the newsletter box.  Thanks for your help!

FUN IN FEBRUARY

Sunday, February 3 – Come on down to watch the SUPER BOWL GAME with all your fellow football fans.  Bring a dish to share for the BBQ potluck.  Sam Smith will be making his tasty pulled pork, so anything that goes with that would be great!  There WILL also be a CHILI COOK OFF, so all you chili lovers be ready for some good stuff!
Sunday, February 10, 5 pm – Annual Golf Awards and Season Kick Off Banquet.  If you’re interested in more info about the Golf Club, contact Cheryl at the bar.
Friday, February 15, 5 pm – Valentine Dinner Party – Bring your sweetheart for a special night out at the Eagles.  Enjoy a prime rib or steak dinner or order from the menu, plus a special Valentine cake for dessert!  Then stay and enjoy your favorite dance music!
Thursday, February 21, 5 pm – Special meat loaf dinner at 5 pm.
Every Saturday night in February – Specialty dinners will be served every Saturday night this month from 5-8 p.m.  Specialty dinners are meals that aren’t on the regular menu.  So you might be treated to beef stroganoff or spaghetti.  Whatever it is, if Lena cooks it, you know it will be good!

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE
The Eagles motto, “People Helping People,” starts at home, and the Ladies Auxiliary recently demonstrated that by making a generous donation to the Aerie.  The Aerie said it was really needed and “just in time.”

IT PAYS TO ATTEND AERIE & LADIES AUXILIARY MEETINGS
A friendly reminder to all Aerie and Ladies Auxiliary members:  Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month, so join your fellow members, take part in the activities AND you also might win a few bucks.  No big winners at the Aerie meetings in January, but it could be YOU in February!
The Auxiliary membership pot continues to grow.  Michelle Primeau and Colleen Lewis could have been big winners if they had been at the January meetings.  Now the pot is up to $140.00.   Mavis Board and Myrna Talaga won the attendance pots.  You, too, can be a winner.  Just come to the meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month.

RAISING THE ROOF – FUNDS THAT IS
The weekly 50-50 drawing is off to a good start with two lucky winners in January – Andy Taylor ($73) and Jay Gates ($75).  The money that has been raised for the roof has been put into a special savings account especially for the roof – no other purpose.   Additional donations are welcome, as well as other ideas for raising funds.  Thanks, everyone!  Don’t forget to get your ticket ($1 each) for the next drawing.  Drawings will be held every Friday at 7:30 p.m.  YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!  So come on down, enjoy a Friday night at the Eagles, buy a 50-50 ticket and maybe you’ll be a winner too!
IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER
Mark your calendars now for the following events coming up at the Redmond Eagles.  Plan on volunteering your time and energy to one or more event!  Just contact Aerie President, Buzz Miller, or Auxiliary President, Carole Browning.  More info will be provided about all of these events.

TRAVEL CLUB NEWS
We would like to thank all of you who supported the 2013 Crab Feed.  It was a huge success!  Congratulations are in order to “the Biggest Crab Eater” and all the raffle ticket winners.
The Crab Feed would not be possible without the many volunteers it takes to put on this event.  We would like to thank the bartenders, the Boy Scouts and everyone else who helped.  We could not do it without you!
Please join us on February 13 for our next meeting.  Our 2013 outings are being planned, and we would like your input on trips you’d like to schedule.

PARKING ISSUE
Please take care when you back your vehicle into a parking space.  The bumper might block the walk way for people coming into the club.  This is especially difficult for people with disabilities.   Please make sure there is plenty of room for people to walk (or use wheelchairs) safely in the walk way.  Thanks for your cooperation.

DINNER FOR TENT CITY RESIDENTS
The Ladies Auxiliary is making plans to provide a dinner for Tent City residents (at St. Jude’s Church in Redmond) on Sunday, April 7.  If you’re interested in helping, please contact Cece at 425-885-4604.

A Special Message from LeaAn Schmitt
“I just want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers and give you a quick update.  Two rounds of chemo were very successful, so I am moving on to start radiation in the coming weeks.  Feeling good about that!  Again, thank you for your thoughts and prayers for me and my fantastic family who are a continuous source of support and assistance for me, as are all of you.”

PLEASE NOTE:  Items for the newsletter are due by the 20th of the month.  Please place your items in the newsletter box or call Cece at 425-885-4604.  Thanks!
